A letter from our president.
Summer is often a time of gatherings with family and friends while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. It is a time to recharge our batteries and renew our spirits. As we look ahead, the new 2026–2027 CWC Board is already bringing fresh and fun ideas for activities and fundraising to support our Half Moon Bay Scholarship Fund. At the same time, we are proudly reflecting on our many accomplishments. Over the past 40 years, we have awarded more than 180 scholarships totaling over $450,000 to local Half Moon Bay seniors.
Please mark your calendars now for our 40th Anniversary Gala on September 11 at the Oceano Hotel. This milestone celebration will be a wonderful evening to dress up, enjoy great food and wine, dance to a live band, and try your luck at casino tables, all while supporting our scholarship fund. The event will also help raise community awareness of the meaningful work we do. This special evening will be open to the public, so please invite your friends and family. More details will be shared in upcoming newsletters and we look forward to celebrating with you in style!
As we approach the end of this fiscal year, it will be bittersweet to bid farewell to our departing board members. Several of these dedicated women have served the club for over a decade in various roles. Their generous time and talent have been truly remarkable, and we are deeply grateful for their leadership. Keep an eye out for upcoming highlight biographies celebrating their contributions.
I am also pleased to share that we have filled all open board positions. Myoung Kang and Tina Der Torossian have accepted nominations as Co-Directors of Fundraising Events. The board has approved them, and they will be presented for general membership approval at the May luncheon and general meeting.
On May 20, we will hold our annual Scholarship Award Night at Half Moon Bay High School. It is always incredibly rewarding to see the students receive their scholarships. A limited number of CWC members may attend; if you are interested, please reach out to me directly. Thank you to our Scholarship Committee for their time, care, and dedication to this important work.
We hope to see you at our May 21 General Meeting and Luncheon. We are delighted to feature local professor and author Tina Seelig, who has generously agreed to speak with us. Additionally, she will be available to sign copies of her recently published book for purchase.
With warmth,
Ema Bowman, CWC President
